From hobby filmmaker
to Hollywood shoot

Our service

We develop your 16mm films either as colour negatives (ECN-2), colour reversal (E-6) or black and white reversal.

We can then digitise the films in resolutions up to 4K. We provide a download link as standard.

We also offer all analogue 16mm copying processes.

How it works

Private customers simply fill in our Order form and send us the films by post from all over the world. Please note our shipping instructions.

Productions receive customised offers and personal contact from us. Tightest timings (same day) are possible.

What does 16mm development cost?

The costs for developing & scanning depend on the quantity and the type of material sent in. Colour negative films are generally cheaper to develop than reversal films. An HD or 2K scan is also cheaper than a 4K scan.

For single 30m rolls we offer special prices for developing and scanning - the more films you send in, the cheaper the scan will be. Students receive a flat-rate 10% discount on our services.

We are happy to provide customised and flexible quotations for productions. Please contact us directly for this.

How is 16mm film scanned?

Resolution

We can scan 16mm film with a resolution of HD, 2K and up to 4k+.

As standard, we scan logarithmically with overscan (Full Aperture) with Scanity HDR.

Alternatively, we can offer the scan via ARRISCAN XT on request.

Delivery

You can choose between easy-to-use H264 MP4 files or professional ProRes Quicktimes (422 / 4444) when selecting the files you want to receive.

The delivery of .dpx sequences is also possible on request.

Delivery is by default via download link or via Cinegrell Cloud.

What is there to to consider?

Old films

We develop overlaid / old films exclusively without guarantee of results.

Old material may have to be developed separately, which is why no binding timings can be given here.

Push / Pull

We can push 16mm films up to +2 f-stops in development, or push -2 f-stops (forced/deforced development).

Please note that additional costs may be incurred.

Analogue 16mm copying

As a classic copying plant, we naturally also offer analogue negative-to-positive copying and blow-ups.

We can copy 16mm film from colour or black and white negative either as one-light or as a balanced copy onto fresh 16mm Kodak print material.

We offer wetgate or drygate copying and can supply your 16mm film copy either silent, with mono optical sound or even with a magnetic edge track.

If you need a 16mm copy based on digital data, we can also produce an exposure of your files to obtain a projectable colour or black and white copy.

Digital to 16mm negative or positive

For individual film looks for file-based productions, or if you need an analogue 16mm copy of digital files, we can produce exposures of digital data on 16mm negative or positive film.

We can supply copies either in silent, or in 16mm with mono optical sound or, on request, with magnetic sound edge recording.

On site: Mon-Fri from 8:45 a.m.

You can bring the film to us in person at any time during our opening hours in Berlin, or send it to us conveniently by carrier or courier.
